Beginning Monday, April 6, 2020 the contractor will continue reconstruction of the Main Street Streetscape by closing portions of the east sidewalk between 2nd Street and 3rd Street. In order for the contractor to begin brick removals, a temporary sidewalk closure will be required. The sidewalk closure will be in effect for approximately seven (7) to ten (10) calendar days, depending on the weather and COVID-19 recommended guidelines. During this closure, all businesses will have pedestrian access from Main Street, but providing rear access through the alley entrances, if available, is recommended. Attached you will find a map with the closure area highlighted.

Beginning Tuesday, April 7, 2020 the contractor will begin reconstruction of the Main Street crosswalk on the south side of the W. 1st Street and Main Street Intersection. In order for the contractor to begin concrete and brick removals, a full road closure at the crosswalk area will be required. In addition, a single lane closure on W. 1st Street will be required. The roadway closure will be in effect for five (5) calendar days, depending on the weather and COVID-19 recommended guidelines. Pedestrian access to all facilities will be maintained during this phase of construction. Attached you will find a map with the closure area highlighted.

For safety’s sake, please stay away from the construction area. Heavy equipment will be moving back and forth on the closed street and sidewalk. It would be advisable to stay behind the temporary fencing during this reconstruction work.

Project Overview Update:

As a result of COVID-19 recommended guidelines, many small businesses along this corridor are experiencing unexpected closures. By modifying our original staging plan, we are now asking the sidewalk contractor to focus on the removal and replacement of the brick immediately adjacent to the storefronts. The photo shows what this looks like, as completed, on the east side of Main Street from 1st to 2nd Street. The goal of this modified staging is to provide as minimal impact on all businesses once the guidelines from Governor Kim Reynolds are lifted. While the contractor shifts their efforts to perform this new plan, the remaining work on the east side of Main Street from 1st to 2nd Street will be on a temporary hold. During this work, sections of parking along the Parkade will be blocked off to provide the minimal required amount of space for the contractor to work.
