The city’s storm water permit from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources requires us to label every storm water intake.
The purpose of the labeling is to caution residents not to dump any kind of waste into the storm sewer system.
All storm water within Cedar Falls eventually drains to the Cedar River. It does not pass through any kind of treatment system.
Several hundred of the city’s nearly 3,000 storm water intakes have already been marked with long-lasting stainless steel medallions like the one shown here. If you haven’t seen any yet, look for them to show up soon in your neighborhood.
