HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM
The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a rental assistance program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. To be eligible for the program, a household must first meet income requirements. All participants must have an initial gross annual income of less than 50% of area median income. Under the program, the tenant pays a minimum of 30% of their income toward their housing costs. The program pays the difference between the rent amount and household income, up to a set payment standard.INCOME LIMITS: Effective 5-1-2023

REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION

To request a Reasonable Accommodation you must complete and return the Reasonable Accommodation form. Examples of an accommodation may include:
- A change in the way we communicate with you or give you information;
- A person-to-person meeting to help explain program rules;
- An interpreter (sign language for hearing impaired);
- Large print documents (for visually impaired);
- A change in a rule or policy that will provide an equal opportunity for you or your family to participate in the program.
LOCAL PREFERENCES
Cedar Falls has adopted local preferences as outlined below. Applicants will be assigned applicable local preferences, based on the documentation provided with the application.

Due to the number of applications on file, calls to inquire about your number on the Waiting List are discouraged. If you are contacting the office to ask about your number on the Waiting List, staff will only advise you if your application is active.

PARTICIPANT INFORMATION
Your rental assistance is important. We want those who qualify to have every opportunity to participate in the program. All participants have certain responsibilities to ensure the funds are being properly spent and to make sure that the participant is paying the proper amount of rent that is affordable and correctly calculated. Participants who do not accept their responsibilities will be terminated from the program.
PROPERTY OWNERS / LANDLORDS
Owners interested in participating in the Housing Choice Voucher Program may contact the Housing Assistance Office at (319) 273-8669. To participate, owners must have no ongoing code enforcement issues and must meet all other local rental property requirements. Properties must pass an initial Housing Quality Standards Inspection. Units are inspected every other year after the initial inspection.
