The Cedar Falls City Council has voted to appoint an individual to the vacant At-Large Council seat. The decision came during the city council meeting held on January 6, 2020.
Consideration for the appointment will be made during the Cedar Falls City Council meeting held on January 20, 2020.
Cedar Falls Mayor Rob Green had previously held the At-Large position, with his term running from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2021. He resigned from the position on January 2, 2020, in order to begin his mayoral term. The individual who will be filling the seat by appointment will serve until the next City election.
Any eligible electors that wish to seek the appointment of the At-Large council position need to contact Jacque Danielsen, Cedar Falls City Clerk, at (319) 273-8600 or email Jacque.Danielsen@cedarfalls.com. Nominees must submit their form by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, for consideration. The council will make the appointment on January 20, 2020, and the effective start date for the new At-Large council member will be as soon as the new council member is sworn in.
In order to appoint a new at-large council member, the majority of council must vote in favor of the appointment. The city will then publish notice of this appointment. The notice must state that the electors of Cedar Falls have the right to file a Petition for a Special Election within 14 days of the notice or appointment. Assuming the appointment takes place on January 20, 2020, the petition will be due at the office of the City Clerk no later than February 3, 2020, at 5:00 PM. Such petition must include the names, signatures and residing addresses of a minimum of 1000 eligible electors, and must also include the date of signature for each elector.
