The Cedar River in Cedar Falls is scheduled to Crest at 100.0 feet on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 according to the National Weather Service Advanced Hydrological Prediction Service. Flood level is 88.0 feet. This is a record level and the City is urging all residents in the 100-year flood plain to prepare for a flood event. The City has placed mitigations and emergency operation plans in place.
The predicted crest of the river will be below the top of the flood levy. There is no imminent danger based on the predicted crest of downtown flooding. City officials will be monitoring the situation hourly. Further announcements will be forwarded as needed.
The City has recommended residents north of the river in flood prone areas to evacuate. This is a voluntary evacuation. No mandatory evacuation exists. Residents should stay away from flood prone areas.
