Starting Monday, September 18, 2023, the Iowa DOT's contractor, Owen Contracting, will be continuing with construction by starting the third stage of the IA 27 and US 218 ramp reconstruction project. Stage 3 work will include rebuilding the inside travel lanes on US 218 and shifting traffic to the newly constructed outside lanes on US 218. During this third stage, both the IA 27/58 southbound exit ramp (exit towards the University of Northern Iowa and Hudson) and the northbound IA 27/58 to westbound IA 57 loop ramp (exit towards downtown Cedar Falls) will continue to be closed. All other remaining ramps will be open to traffic. US 218 westbound and IA 57 westbound will be in a reduced lane capacity.
Heavy equipment will be moving back and forth on the closed sections of the highway. Below you will find a map with the closure areas highlighted and a detour map for the closed ramps.
