With severe winter weather expected in the area starting the evening of January 8, 2024, the City of Cedar Falls reminds property owners and occupants to help keep the community safe by removing snow and ice from all public sidewalks adjacent to their property. Snow and ice is to be removed for the full width of all sidewalks within 48 hours of the end of the weather event.
The City would also like to remind residents of the 48-hour parking ordinance. Vehicles should not be parked on any street for a continuous period of more than 48 hours. It is recommended that all vehicles be moved off the street prior to severe winter weather when possible. This helps allow plows and salt trucks to remove snow in all public right-of-ways.
Traveling is not advised but, if it cannot be avoided, Cedar Falls Public Safety recommends the following safety guidelines:
- Allow for extra time to reach your destination
- Turn on your headlights, leave space between cars, and break well in advance of your stop
- Have a full tank of gas
- Drive distraction-free
- Slow down
- Keep supplies like a blanket, flashlight with extra batteries, first aid kit, water bottles, snacks, ice scraper, snow shovel, and cell phone charger in your car (ensure your phone is fully charged before travel)

Thank you for your assistance in helping to ensure safe travel for motorists and pedestrians throughout this winter season.
