As leaves begin to fall we remind residents of the options provided for leaf disposal:
- Mulching - Mulching is one of the best practices in managing fall leaves. Almost without exception lawn clippings and leaves should always be mulched back into the lawn. The benefits of mulching this material are too numerous and valuable to ignore. From providing nutrients and valuable organic matter to the soil, to saving significant amounts of time and money, mulching leaves and clippings just makes sense.
-
Seasonal Yard Waste Drop-Off & Compost Facility - This facility is staffed and will be open to residents during the months of October and November in the Fall. The facility is located in the 300 block of East Main Street in Cedar Falls. Hours of operation are from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturdays. Residents may bring brush, logs, leaves, garden waste, and grass clippings to this site. Brush and twigs are processed separately from the yard and garden waste. Garbage and demolition material is not accepted at this site.
-
October/November Curbside Yard Waste Collection - Yard waste carts are emptied each Monday at a reduced fee of $5.00 per dump during the months of October and November starting Monday, October 6th through November 24th. During the weeks of November 3rd through the 14th yard waste carts will be collected as often as possible citywide.
-
Transfer Station - The Transfer Station accepts yard waste daily during normal operations. Mondays are reserved for yard waste only. Hours are 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday.
-
Leaf Vacuum - Residents have the option to utilize a leaf vacuum service offered during the months of October and November. Residents who are interested in this option should pile their leaves directly behind the curb between the street and the sidewalk for collection. Residents must then call the Public Works Department at (319) 273-8629 to schedule an appointment. The cost is $50.00 per visit.
A burn ban has been in effect in Cedar Falls since January 1, 2004. Residents are reminded that the burning of leaves and grass clippings is prohibited within the city limits under any circumstances and is considered a municipal infraction.
More information regarding yard waste disposal is available on the city's website.
