The Cedar Falls Police Department would like to remind residents of the 48-hour parking ordinance. With the recent snow fall in the metro area, snow plows and salt trucks need to be able to remove snow in all public right-of-ways to help ensure safe travel throughout town.
Beginning Wednesday November 19th at 8:00 AM, the Cedar Falls Police Department will begin ticketing all vehicles in violations of the 48 hour ordinance. Any vehicle not moved within 24 hours after receiving a citation will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Residents are also reminded to clear their abutting sidewalks of snow and ice in accordance with city ordinance. Also, beginning Wednesday November 19th at 8:00 AM the city will begin serving notices to residents who have not cleared the sidewalk abutting their property.
The Cedar Falls Police Department is asking the assistance of the public to help ensure safe travel for motorists and pedestrians throughout this winter season.
Although a snow emergency has not been declared, The Cedar Falls Police Department would like to remind citizens of Snow Emergency Procedures.
The Snow Emergency Ordinance reads as follows…………..
Whenever the mayor or director of public works or the director's designee finds on the basis of falling snow, sleet, freezing rain or the forecast of accumulations of snow or ice, that weather conditions have created or are likely to create hazardous road and driving conditions which will impede or are likely to impede movement of fire, health, police, emergency or other vital vehicular traffic, the mayor or director of public works or the director's designee may declare that snow removal on priority one and priority two streets shall begin and prohibit parking or stopping of vehicles on designated snow removal routes. While the snow removal is in effect, no person shall park, abandon or leave unattended any vehicle upon any priority one and priority two snow removal route or portion of such route, as designated as such by subsection (d) and (e) of this section. Each street designated as a priority one and priority two snow removal route shall be marked with signs displaying the words "Emergency Snow Route". ……..

Snow Emergencies stay in effect until the mayor or his designee announces otherwise. Residents should monitor local media outlets as well as the city web site to find out if a snow emergency has been declared.
