[ARCHIVED] Volunteers Needed at the Cedar Valley’s Largest 1-Day Recycling Event!

The City of Cedar Falls and Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission are seeking volunteers that can help during their electronics recycling and household hazardous materials drop-off event in Cedar Falls on Saturday, September 24th (Cedar Falls Public Works Complex, 2200 Technology Parkway).

Volunteers (ages 18+) are needed for directing traffic, surveys, shrink-wrapping, and helping unload household chemicals and electronics from residents’ vehicles. A crew of nearly 60 people is needed to unload between 700 and 1,000 vehicles during the five hour event. Volunteers unloaded more than 33 tons of electronics at the last event in the spring, filling 114 pallets of old tvs and computer monitors. So many hands are needed to pull off this community recycling event!

The City of Cedar Falls provides the facility for the event and forklift drivers, the BH County Solid Waste Mgmt Commission pays for all the recycling/disposal costs and the Waste Trac Education Team recruits the volunteers to make the day happen. To sign up to volunteer, contact Tammy Turner with the Waste Trac Education Team at 266-8722 or tturner@co.black-hawk.ia.us.

Volunteers can volunteer for a morning shift, 7:45 am—12:15 pm or help the entire length of the event, 7:45 am–2:00 pm. Donuts, full lunch, beverages, and all safety equipment and training will be provided to volunteers. Volunteers need to be 18 years of age or older. Volunteers helping with electronics will need to be able to safely lift 40 pounds. Rugged pants and sturdy footwear are required (no sandals or shorts). The event will take place rain or shine, however most volunteer tasks will take place in a building.

Lend your muscles and help out both your community and the environment!

For more information about the household items accepted at this event, visit www.WasteTrac.org, call (319) 266-8722 or visit the Waste Trac Education Team Facebook page.
